Hello! Happy JH Weekly day! Let’s talk about money!
This is definitely one of the topics of any niche industry, that tends to raise a lot of questions right?
“How much do you make?”
“What is your actual job?”
The list goes on, and honestly this question used to bother me, because it's really no one else's business right? Well, for this week's newsletter, to continue being transparent, I’m gonna share some insights with you about the money side of it all and also take this opportunity to talk about goals, and how setting quantifiable goals can be a game changer!
I made over USD 16k in October. I never thought I’d be having months like that when I first started taking photos 5 years ago. That was a figure that quite honestly was beyond what I thought would be possible!
Once again for the sake of transparency, I’ll be the first to tell you that USD$16k+ months aren’t consistent (yet), but it is happening a lot more frequently now!
Now why am I telling you this? “Yeah nice, you had a good month, who cares?” - Well, I’m really just writing about this for 2 reasons.
- This point is directed at you if you are looking to approach your own creative business - whether it's photo/video related, or coaching, or e-commerce, or whatever it may be… This is totally possible and you GOT THIS!
- This point is directed at you no matter what you do - if you’re reading this, I just want you to know that I achieved goals with shifts in mindset. Financial goals included - and you can too!
A majority of that income for October (USD 15.5k) came from creative client work, the rest of it (USD 850) came from selling digital products.
So what’s next?
I’m setting sky high goals now for where I want to reach from a business standpoint, and with that reaching mindset comes a massive need to perform. My main goal is to perform at a level where I can consistently help others achieve their goals.
“So why talk about money then?” you might ask.
Well, it’s very hard to quantify “I want to help people achieve their goals”... How do I measure that? It’s a lot simpler to quantify “I want to make x amount of $$ per month, by selling products and services to help others achieve their goals.”
From creating quantifiable goals like this, I’m able to work out what I need to create or offer, and how many times I need to sell this value, in order to reach my goal.
I know for a fact, with my years of experience in the industry, that creating high quality products and services will help others in reaching their goals, there is no doubt in my mind about that! That’s why I’m now setting much higher goals, and you can too, and you SHOULD!
It’s okay to talk about money, it's an asset we earn in life, it comes and goes very quickly. It's something we all need to get by, and I think it's completely okay to normalize the idea of making money that allows us to be comfortable. And it's quantifiable!
Here’s a question for you entrepreneurial spirits out there! Have you tried to make your goals as quantifiable as possible, and then reverse engineer those goals? I’m telling you, it's a game changer - it breaks down the impossible sums into very possible numbers.
Once again, Help me help you! Reply to this email if this raised any interest today. Let me know if you’re just getting started as a small creative business or started a while ago and can’t find the traction or are having a hard time setting goals! No matter what your niche is or what your goals are, hit me up!
I will be selecting a few individual cases to deep dive in the coming weeks, where I’ll listen to you and your current situation and anything you’re struggling with in the process, and give you my hot take on ideas and hopefully allow that to share value with others as well who may find themselves in comparable situations.
Catch you next week!
Lots of Love,
Jonas H
